Megan’s Story

Megan Spence was on the path to becoming a massage therapist long before she actually enrolled at the Swedish Institute. Ironically, Megan was one of those kids who didn’t really like to have her shoulders rubbed. In college, at a high point of stress, she developed a strain in the neck that wouldn’t budge that finally led her to seek relief in massage therapy. This was the first (but not the last) massage that would change her life. Less than 20 minutes in, she was sobbing uncontrollably. What was that about? Thus began her inquiry into the relationship between emotional and physical pain, the mind and the body that would continue to be her greatest inspiration and area of expertise.

A Swedish Institute graduate and avid ongoing learner, Megan is trained in a variety of techniques including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Hot Stone, Tui Na, Shiatsu, Pre and Post-Natal Massage, and massage to encourage and support labor. Whatever techniques she is using, her approach to massage is rooted in the belief in people’s capacity for healing. Whether you are seeking mental, emotional, or physical relief, massage creates a safe space to unwind and repair.

Megan stands in awe of the profound changes that massage can bring. Come in stressed, frazzled, exhausted, hurting, or drained; leave relaxed and rejuvenated. Megan is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and soothing environment that will put everyone from the massage newbie to the aficionado at ease.
